Good Design: System International Units

fullerines

I have been working to accept nature as it is. I found myself looking at the System International Measure Units:

1. Prediction – Radiation – Mission – Art – Visual – Eye – Video – Candela
2. Harmonization – Vibration – Strategy – Science – Tempal – Ear – Audio – Celcius
3. Synchronation – Duration – Tactics – Design – Signal – Nose – Events – Second
4. Information – Distance – Operation – Engineering – Gradual – Throat – Graphics – Metre
5. Validation – Mass – Product – Skill – Technical – Jaw – Text – Kilogram
6. Transaction – Current – Service – Training – Clerical – Body – Equations – Ampere
7. Satisfaction – Molarity – Price – Education – Medial – Thumb – Numbers – Mole

I am of the opinion, if we stick to the basics we will develop better systems.

The Brain: ZenUniverse: Seven Senses

zensevenuniversebrain1

  1. GREEN: EYE: OCCIPITAL LOBE: visual center of the brain
  2. YELLOW: EAR: TEMPORAL LOBE: sensory center of hearing in the brain.
  3. SKY: NOSE: BRAINSTEM: control of reflexes and such essential internal mechanisms as respiration and heartbeat.
  4. BLUE: TONGUE: PARIETAL LOBE: Complex sensory information from the body is processed in the parietal lobe, which also controls the ability to understand language.
  5. RED:  JAW: FRONTAL LOBE: control of skilled motor activity, including speech, mood and the ability to think.
  6. ORANGE: BODY:  CEREBELLUM: regulation and coordination of complex voluntary muscular movement as well as the maintenance of posture and balance.
  7. GREY: SELF: CORPUS CALLOSUM: The arched bridge of nervous tissue that connects the two cerebral hemispheres, allowing communication between the right and left sides of the brain.

If you look at my first ZenUniverse post, you will see a six column model.  However, the System International Units require seven columns.

Here is a table of two hemisphere intersections.  I am using Latin roots, but you will recognize many of the terms:

Here is a blank table you can print out and experiment with correlations and intersections of your own:

My Inc.: Open Capitalism

myinc

There are another two words I would like to introduce into the discussion: “democratization” and “personalization”.  We are encountering many new technologies and they are going through phases.  Most simply put they are going from specialist who is knowledgeable how to use the technology for the user, to technologist who uses the technology on behalf of a knowledgeable user, to personal where the generalist knowledgeable user interacts with the technology directly.

We are experiencing mass personalization of technology.  And this is leading to further phenomena.  Personal Cooperation and Personal Corporation.  People are as Howard Rheingold www.rheingold.com describes sharing more and more information freely.  But they are also discovering the worth of their reputation and knowledge and turning it into a business like Guy Kawasaki www.guykawasaki.com who is using ghost writers on twitter.

I foresee everyone  sharing their personal knowledge cooperatively and upon establishing worth selling the best of their personal knowledge corporately.

It is a beautiful future where everyone is personally incorporated and everyone personally outsources to everyone else globally.

Sharing information freely and openly is a dead end game, because we all have to make a living.

Sharing information on a globally set price scale and reputation system that recognizes the worth of the information and work every incorporated individual can provide is Open Capitalism (you heard it here first) and will free us from exploitation.

Let’s turn the race for the bottom back into a personal global race for the top.

This will be the true “Knowledge Economy”.

Icons: The Crisis of Credit Visualized

Vodpod videos no longer available.

more about “Visual: The Crisis of Credit“, posted with vodpod

This is a brilliant visual presentation.

Note how icons are used with minimal animation to convey the message.

Dimension: Nikon Universcale

Nikon has developed what I consider the best representation of base ten exponential representation I have ever seen.

Universcale allows you to navigate a two dimensional Base 10 landscape linearly.

I see the possibility here to develop a visual model to linearly navigate any pair of exponential scales.

I can also see the possibility to develop a visual model to tabularly navigate any pair of exponential scales.

Truly a brilliant innovation that deserves to be extended to its fullest potential.

I highly recommend a visit.
